Salamanca Markets

Saturday Mornings in Salamanca Place

Busker at Salamanca

OK - I admit it, I'm not the greatest shopper known to man. But I think Salamanca Market is a fabulous place to visit to experience a microcosm of Tasmanian culture. It's one of those places I like to take visitors just to give them a hint of why Hobart is such a great place.

My last visit was with my sister and our combined families. Talented buskers, hundreds of stalls for all tastes by vendors from all over Tasmania to browse and an excellent souvlaki kept us all intrigued and delighted for the morning.

The market extends the whole length of Salamanca Place overlooking the docks on one side and the historical sandstone warehouses on the other. I'm forever fascinated by the impressive design and construction of these 18th century buildings still in use today as an important place of Tasmanian commerce.
